2008: February Has 5 Fridays
It's leap year this year. Did you know that? On this rare leap year, the short month of February has 5 Fridays. That's pretty impressive for a month with only 29 days.
When I was listening to the radio the other day, the announcer comes on the radio and is talking about an upcoming show that will be on February 29th. She mentions that it's the leap year, and then says "how often does that happen??!!", in a half-shocked, half curious sort of way. Of course at this point I mutter to myself "every 4 years you dumbass". Then, to answer her own question, she says "I guess every 7 years or something like that".
I was blown away. If you're aware enough to know that the 29th of February is special, and it's called a leap year when this happens, common sense would dictate that you also know that a leap year comes every 4 years. *
* Note: A leap year comes every 4 years (the year is divisible by 4), unless the year is divisible by 100 and not divisible by 400. That means that 1900 was not a leap year, but 2000 was.
